The Provincial Council commissions Azpiegiturak for the project to construct the future Getxo intergenerational centre
The provincial institution’s cabinet has agreed to commission Azpiegiturak, a publicly-owned company, to construct, fit out and subsequently manage a home in Getxo to encourage intergenerational coexistence between older persons requiring care and young people. A project is thus coming to fruition that will involve a total investment over €13 million. Nearly €10 million will be funded by the Provincial Council and just over €3 million will be borne by Getxo Council, pursuant to the partnership agreement signed by both institutions on 5 March.
The Bizkaia Provincial Council cabinet has agreed to commission Azpiegiturak, a publicly-owned company, to produce the project, construct and fit out the Intergenerational Centre in Getxo. This innovative project will foster intergenerational coexistence between older persons and young people.
The Provincial Council is thus bringing to fruition a project that will involve a total investment of €13,63,405. According to the partnership agreement signed on 5 March, the provincial institution will fund €9,938,775 and Getxo Council the remaining €3,324,630.
The new mixed-purpose public facility will be in the Romo district in Getxo. The joint-purpose building, with an estimated total 8,967 m² floor space, will have 40 social housing units to be rented by young people (2,308 m²) and 100 residential places for persons requiring care (6,659 m²).
This ground-breaking initiative in the Spanish State plans to develop an innovative coexistence model where people of different ages share communal areas and can interact, thus avoid intergenerational and social isolation.
